Officials of Qatar Tourism Authority and Qtel addressing the press conference yesterday.

doha: The Qatar Summer Wonders mega festival begins at the City Center Doha tomorrow. The fest, entitled 'Around the World in 30 days' billed as the biggest of its kind in the GCC region will continue till August 10, senior officials at the Qatar Tourism Authority and Qatar Telecom (Qtel), said here yesterday.

The surprise announcement comes following the merger of Qtel's own celebrations, the Qtel Summer Carnival with the QTA's annual event, the Qatar Summer Wonders.

Following the merger and Qtel being nominated as the QSW's primary sponsor, the festival will now run till August 10.

Attractions that were lined up for the Qtel event were likely to be extended till that date. All shows at the City Center are offered free of cost and include the Baba Langa live show, Make Your Own Toys workshop, the Qtel Internet City attractions and Qtel City drama, among others.

Gary Mason, Acting Director General, QTA said, the shopping festival, which is a major part of the QSW, will begin from July 10 as scheduled earlier.

Four weekly draws featuring a combined QR2m in cash as prizes will be given away to shoppers.

The QSW attractions this year will also be extended to Al Khor. These shows will be held at the Al Khor Club every weekend, he added.

In addition, the Mall, Landmark Mall, Hyatt Plaza and the Royal Plaza will also play host to some of the attractions of the QSW with the Qatar International Exhibition Centre as the main venue.

Waleed Mohammad Al Sayed, Executive Director, Qtel, disclosed, the decision to merge the Qtel Summer Carnival with the QTA's QSW was taken since both the organisations strive for a common goal- to promote Qatar. "

This merger, we believe, will offer better value to the people of Qatar," he added.

Ibrahim Al Sayed, board member of the QTA said, all attractions offered during the QSW were of an international standard and include the Circus of the World and the Illusion Show, among others.

"With our partnership with Qtel, we are launching a whole new dimension to the festival as well as expertise, finance and support from both, QTA and Qtel," he added.
